Damon “Dee” Williams, B.A. in Mass Communications ‘88

Mr. Damon "Dee" Williams attended NSU from 1984 – 1988. He was a Mass Communications major focused on Radio and TV production.  During his time at NSU he was a member of the Mass Communications Club and worked at WNSB. In the Spring of 1986, he was initiated in the Pi Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

Damon's fondest NSU memories are working on the second floor of the library as part of work study, painting graffiti murals in the Fine Arts building and DJing many parties in the Old Gym and Student Union (Sweat Box) back in the day.

He is a lifetime member of NSUAA and 1st Vice President of the Pure Gold Alumni Chapter. Damon was featured in NSU's "Behold Magazine" in the winter of 2014 and spoke at NSU as part of the L.E.A.D. (Leadership, Education and Development Series) sponsored by Student Affairs in 2014. The Mass Communication Department named him Alumnus of the Year in 2011 and the NY Metro Alumni chapter recognized him for his contributions to the music industry in 2008.

Damon has worked in the radio and music industry for over 30+ years. Kicking off his career in Norfolk as an on-air personality known as "DJ Damon Dee'' on Power 94 FM and K-92 FM. He went on to be the Programmer Director of Hip Hop & Go-Go station "Flava 1580" WPGC-AM in Washington DC and then 93.9 WKYS-FM in DC. After that, Damon moved on to Music Choice in 1998 where he rose to the position of SVP of Programming Strategy & Partnerships. For over 9 years he hosted NSU students at the NY offices of Music Choice to expose them to opportunities in the music industry.

Damon also serves as the Chairman of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of R&B music and providing financial assistance to R&B artists who find themselves in need. In 2011, Damon worked with his Omega Line Brothers (Spring 86) to start the "Old School Day Party" during Homecoming. For 11 years the event has raised scholarship money for NSU students.

We are so very proud of our Spartan Brother and all that he has accomplished and continues to do for Norfolk State and his community. Thank you, Brother Williams, for representing NSU so well.
